Tasks
Why preserving?
Whoever keeps and manages ancient, valuable and rare artifacts, seeks to take lasting enjoyment in it. Thus, he takes responsibility of their long-term preservation, their access in exhibitions and collections, for scientific research and studies.
Objects have significance: They depict past or foreign cultures, describe societies and therefore possess a cultural and historic importance. They can be art and thus have a collector’s value. Now and then, they consist of a precious material. They can hold a symbolic value. Or they are aesthetically significant.
The main task of a conservator is to get the artifact in a condition in which its significance is legible again.
